Teen behavioral challenges seem to take precedence in the mental health world, and often as parents, educators and therapists we are not thinking about the development of relational skills. As adults, we know the greatest satisfaction we get in life can be through relationships, and also, the biggest source of challenge. When there is so much to think about in parenting a teen, it is difficult to prioritize the development of these skills. Additionally, with the rise in the electronic world, many teens have lost the ability to engage in spontaneous conversations with one another. Teens that report more satisfying friendships and relationships with adults, have fewer mental health challenges. This presentation will cover the impact of loneliness on teens, and the desires they have to be more seen, known and valued.
